Visitation will be from 8 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Holtville for Bernardo V. Alday, 89, of Holtville, who died Saturday in his home. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday in the church. The Rev. Cecilio Moraga will officiate.

Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico.

Mr. Alday was born March 26, 1915, in Phoenix, where he was raised.

He came to the Imperial Valley in the early 1930s, settling in Holtville.

Mr. Alday married Maria V. Alday, who preceded him in death in May 1996. He and his family lived, at one time, on a ranch in Calexico, family said.

He worked for Douthitt Steel as a welder, from which he retired in 1980. For many years he was a cowboy and worked for Cudahay Ranches in Calexico.

Survivors include his sister, Maria Luisa V. Alday of El Centro; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
