John Horton Amis

He was born 1838 in Perry Co., Ky., & died Oct. 06, 1870 in PERRY CO., Ky.

The Amis Company:
Amis was Captain, John 1st Lt. & Wiley 2nd Lt. of the Amis Company of the 14th Kentucky Infantry of the U.S. Volunteers. This company was known throughout the War for bravery. It was made up largely of the Amis' & their relatives either by blood or marriage.

John Horton Amis (son of Wiley Horton Amis & Elizabeth "Betsy" Bolling) was born in Perry Co, Ky., He married Sarah "Sallie" Eversole.

Children of John Horton Amis & Sarah "Sallie" Eversole are:
Elizabeth Amis, b. 25 Oct. 1858, Owsley Co, Ky., d. 28 Aug. 1932, Owsley Co., Ky.

During the Amis-Strong feud, John was the leader of the Amis faction. Alfred was killed in Jun. of 1870 & John in Oct. of 1870, both by the Strong family. The death of John Amis basically ended the feud & Wiley & some family moved to Kansas at that time. John & Alfred are buried on a hill on the old Amis famr close to the Buckhorn community of Perry, Co., KY. John Paul Amis & several family members still own the family farm there.
