DIED WHILE HOME ON FURLOUGH TO KNIGHTS LANDING
Virgil Agard, Yolo county soldier, who answered the call of his country during the past summer and went to Camp Kearny to enter training, is dead at his home at Knights Landing as the result of influenza. The young soldier came home Christmas evening for a furlough over the holidays. He became ill almost immediately with influenza and despite medical attendance died this morning.
Virgil Agard was the son of Abner(sic) Agard and was only 23 years. Before entering the army he worked about Knights Landing, and is well known in that part of the county. He is survived by three brothers, Lloyd, Chester and Pete Agard, all of Knights Landing, and Mrs. Bernice Horgan of Blacks.(1)

Woodland (Yolo Co.) December 21. -- Virgil Agard, Knights Landing soldier, died at Knights Landing at shortly before noon on Monday as the result of influenza.
The young solider, who was only 23 years of age, arrived at Knights Landing on Christmas eve to spend a short holiday furlough. He was taken ill almost immediately and rapidly sank to his death.
Virgil Agard was the son of Abner(sic) Agard and was aged 23 years. He had lived in the Knights Landing section for some time previous to entering the army last Fall.(2)
