Mary Elizabeth Stringer, wife of George O. Stringer passed away on Monday, July 3rd, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Pegg on Main street, Cherry Valley following a lingering illness of diabetes. Mrs. Stringer was seventy-three years of age and was born in Worcester on June 26, 1871, the daughter of William Bellew and Louisa J. (Howarth) Bellew. Her former home was at Staleyville where she and her husband operated a large dairy farm. Due to ill health, she came to reside with her sister-in-law, a little over a year ago and by whom she was tenderly cared for. A school teacher by occupation, she taught at Center Valley, where she met and married her husband about forty years ago. Mrs. Stringer was a member of the Catholic Church at Sharon Springs ... She was laid to rest in the Cherry Valley cemetery. The Rosary service was held from the Ottman Funeral home at eight o'clock on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Stringer is survived by her husband and four sisters: Mrs. Nellie Schutt, Washington, D. C.; Mrs. Ed. VanDeberg, Oneonta; Miss Amy Bellew, New York City; Mrs. Victoria Van Castle, New York City and by nieces and nephews."
