(John was baptised in 1627/1628.) He was the second son of Thomas and Dorothy Burgess.

He was admitted a freeman in 1657 and served as grand juror in 1661. He removed to Yarmouth and was deputy from that town to the Court at Plymouth in 1680. On Sept, 8, 1657 he married Mary Worden, the daughter of Peter and Mary (have seen Sears and Winslow) Worden. Their ten children are:
