Age 37 years enlisted August 27, 1861 as 2nd Lieutenant with Co. A. 9th Indiana Infantry resigned October 8 1861 Tigart Valley, WV. ..Re-enlisted at 39 years August 18, 1863 mustered in October 9, 1863 as Private with Co. G. 9th Ohio Cavalry mustered out May 13, 1864 at Camp Dennison Ohio.

Jacob was single residing at different Soldiers home until he was transferred to the last being at Washington D.C.

He applied for his Pension as invalid on February 21, 1865 app# 61,601 pension stated service as
Mexican War- Co. G. 9th Ohio Cav. and Co. A. 9th Indiana Infantry.
