Our community was shocked and saddened Sun. afternoon, May 2, by the death of Mrs J O Beard. She had been in failing health for several months, though was up most of the time.
Mrs Beard, before her marriage 27 years ago, was Miss Claudie Edmonson. She was born 42 years ago in Henry County, but had been a resident of Dodge County for 10 years.
She is survived by her aged father, of Atlanta; three sisters, husband and 10 children: Lewis Beard of Atlanta; Mrs Peggy Hawkins, Macon; Mrs Cllie Young, Fitzgerald; Mrs Bessie Boutwell, Eastman; Lydia, Ester, Clara, Woodrow, Johnie, Henry, and Claude Beard, at home. Little Claude, who is only 3 months old, was taken to Atlanta to live with his aunt, Mrs Walden.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev R G P McKinnon and interment was at the cemetery at Parkerson Church.
