Civil WarHe was a private in Co. B of the 38th infantry. He enlisted March 18th, 1864, was wounded & taken prisoner July 30, 1864 at Petersburg, VA. He mustered out July 26, 1865.
He leaves a wife and 12 year old son and four brothers, Leroy of the Veteran's Home, Hanley of Belmont and George and Elmer of the town of Plover.

Several records show his name as Shanlon.
