I was told by a relative that James and Lydia Skiles were buried at Center Church, but that the stones are now missing. She heard that another relative once saw their gravestones in a trash pile, but he did not recover them and they are now lost! Also, Lydia Skiles' death certificate lists Center Presbyterian Cemetery as her interment location. There is a space next to the graves of James P. and Martha Skiles where it might be possible for to unmarked graves to be.

Lydia (Lafferty) Skiles was raised by Joseph and Jane Denniston (or Denison). Perhaps she was related to them, but in the 1870 census, she was listed as a servant. Her birth parents are unknown to me at this time. Joseph and Jane Denniston are also buried at Center Church Cemetery.

Her obituary:

Canonsburg Herald, Thurs. 28 Jul 1904, front page:

Lydia L. Skiles -- On Monday night, July 25, at her home on East Pike Street, Mrs. Lydia L. Skiles died of lung trouble in the 55th year of her age.

She is survived by her husband, Jas. H. Skiles and the following children: Mrs. C. Fife, Mrs. H. Bowers, Alice and Maude. The funeral services were held in the First M. E. Church on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Interment was in the Center Presbyterian Cemetery.
