Raymond C. Gardner, 82, of Camden, IN, passed away Thursday, March 11, 1999. Born Oct. 20, 1916 in Napanee, IN to the late Chester U. and Ethel K Kleckner Gardner. Married Nov. 7, 1936 in Hannibal, MO to Betty A. (Stewart) Gardner, who survives. Also survived by six sons, Wayne (Louise) Gardner of Cameron, WI, Ralph (Joan) Gardner of Munster, IN, Clark (Judy) Gardner of Mooresville, IN, Larry (Sandi) Gardner of Granger, IN, Raymond Dennis Gardner of Camden, IN and Paul (Debbie) Gardner of Barron, WI; one daughter Karen Gardner of Hammond, IN; one sister, Raynes Ulbrich of Fresno, CA; 20 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by parents, one brother, Basil Gardner, one son, Greg and one grandon, Tommy.
Funeral services Monday, March 15, 1999, 10:30 a.m. at the Cree Funeral Home in Camden, Indiana with Rev. James L. Lund officiating. Burial at the Camden Cemetery. Visitation on Sunday 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Masonic and OES service on Sunday. Memorial contributions to Sharon Baptist Church appreciated.
Mr. Gardner was a 23 year resident of Camden, formerly of Hammond for 42 years.
Member of the First Baptist Church of Camden; Mt. Zion Lodge 211 F.&A.M. &
Order of Eastern Star #475, both at Camden for 50 years; Scottish Rite, Indianapolis, Shrine at South Bend, Supervisors Club of Republic Steel, retired-Coke Plant superintendent for Republic Steel in South Chicago, IL (1976); a 1933 graduate of Washington H.S., East Chicago, IN, attended Valparaiso University for two years and one year at Indiana University extension in E.
