US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served Minnesota's 7th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives from 1977 until 1991. With a background in farming, he entered the political arena as a candidate for Minnesota's House of Representatives and after winning his seat, he served from 1966 until 1975. During his tenure in Congress, Stangeland utilized his experience as a farmer to help shape national policies regarding agricultural matters. Throughout the course of his political career, he was known for his ability to work in a bipartisan manner. After leaving Congress, he remained in Washington to serve as a lobbyist.
