Beth D. Hower Amsrud, 89, of Forreston and Ormond Beach Florida, where she resided for the last seven years, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, 1997, at the home of her sister, Wanda Hower Maass of Ormond Beach FL.

Beth was born April 21, 1908 in Lanark, to Charles and Anna Mest Hower. Beth married Morris J. Amsrud on June 7, 1941, in Lanark; they lived in the Rockford area for many years. Morris died in 1979

Beth was a graduate of Lanark High School, Class of 1925, Studied violin, public school music and liberal arts at the Frances Shimer College, Mount Carroll, and MacPhail School for Music, Minneapolis, MN. She received a master's degree at Northwestern University, Evanston.

Beth began her career in 1929 teaching band in the following schools: Chadwick, Thomson, Cordova, Elizabeth, Orangeville, Mount Morris, Byron, Oregon, and Forreston, where she started teaching full time in 1951. She retired in 1964 after 37 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Forreston.

Survivors include her sister, Wanda; four foster children; and one Niece.

Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 1997, at the First United Methodist Church of Forreston, with the Reverend Martha A. Coursey, pastor, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded, with burial of cremains in Lanark Cemetery at 11 am. Saturday July 5, with the Reverend Rodney Dye, pastor of Lanark United Methodist Church, officiating.

Memorials in her memory to Shriners' Hospitals for Crippled Children and Forreston Fire Department have been established.
