Age 95, she was a native of Culpeper, VA, but she spent her junior and senior high years and much of her working life in Washington DC.
She served the U.S. Department of Labor, the District of Columbia public schools and the city's first mayor, Walter E. Washington. A graduate of Hampton University, supplemental courses at George Washington University, she had skills that suited her for many jobs/positions in public and social groups.
She is the widow of James Wellington "Billy" Campbell, who served Mayor Washington as well.
She is survived by her grand-niece, Caren Elisabeth Norris; grand-nephew, Kenneth Jacques Norris; great-grand-niece, Krystan Elizabeth Norris; great-grand-nephews, Kenneth and Kamal Norris; goddaughter, Stephanye Fauntleroy; dear friend, Phyllis Fauntleroy; a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
