Lieutenant Colonel Richard Ormsby Byrne, age 74, of Houston County Lake, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at his residence. He was born December 17, 1938 in Natchez, Mississippi and been living at the Houston County Lake for the past 8 years. Lieutenant Colonel Byrne was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he retired after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, R. C. Flyer Club and the St. Francis of the Tejas Catholic Church.

Survivors include wife, Sondra Byrne of Houston County Lake; children, Kevin Richard Byrne and wife, Cherie of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, Patricia Leah Harrington and husband, Doug of Mesa, Arizona, Matthew William Byrne and wife, Kerry of Houston County Lake; grandchildren, Catherine Byrne, Collin Byrne, Cameron Byrne, Shannon Harrington, Robyn Harrington, Tyler Byrne, Daniel Byrne, Manon Felos, Anthony Felos, Eliza Felos, William Felos, Alyssa Felos; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by parents, Edwin and Ilene (Ormsby) Byrne; brother, Donald Byrne; sisters, Ilene Parker, Eleanor Merrill; niece, Eleanor Parker and nephew, Michael Byrne.

A memorial mass for Lieutenant Colonel Richard Ormsby Byrne will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the St. Francis of the Tejas Catholic Church with Father Peter McGrath officiating.
