JOHN JUNTA DEAD, WAS PITTSBURG CIVIC LEADER
John A. Junta, 85, a member of Pittsburg's first city council, died at 3:40 p.m. yesterday in his Pittsburg home after an illness of several weeks.
Rosary is to be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Caruso Funeral Home in Pittsburg, with Requiem Mass to be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday in St. Peter's Martyr Church followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery near Antioch (This is incorrect. He is buried at Saint Joseph's Cemetery in San Pablo).
A resident of Pittsburg for 78 years, Junta was educated in that city's schools and followed a varied career as carpenter, building contractor, boat builder, merchant and finally wholesale fish dealer prior to his retirement. A few months ago hundreds of friends and relatives gathered to fete him and Mrs. Junta on their 50th wedding anniversary.
He was the father of J. Harold Dempsey of El Cerrito who formerly was associated with the Hickmott cannery here, Mrs. Tom Griffith of Pittsburg and Mrs. R.J. Bajada of Tracy; the brother of Bert Junta of Eureka, Mrs. D.A. Gatto of Pittsburg, Henry Junta of Monterey and Mrs. Jennie Ervin and Miss Mary Junta, both of Sacramento.
