Maryland Bureau of Mines, Mine Inspector's Annual Reports Fatal Accidents, 1902
May 6--Benjamin Wright, miner; age 62; while working in the Cumberland & Piedmont Co.'s mine near Franklin, was killed by fall of rock from the roof. Wm. Ford, who worked with him, was not injured. I am of the opinion, that, while the accident could have been avoided, nine out of the ten miners would have been caught in the same way.

The Herald, Piedmont, West Virginia, May 9, 1902: Mr. Benjamin Wright of Westernport was injured Tuesday last May 6, 1902 in the Piedmont Cumberland and Coal Co.'s mine at Franklin by a slip of the roof from the effects of which he died two hours afterwards. He was an old citizen about 60 years of age and leaves a wife and one married daughter, Mrs. John Hotchkiss, of Westernport. The funeral took place from the Presbyterian church Thursday, Rev J. H. Cooper officiating.
