Leona R. Holm, 87, of Central City, formerly of Litchfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at the Central City Hospital.
Funeral services were held Jan. 31 at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Litchfield with the Rev. Heidi Revelo officiating. Lois Hanshew was organist and accompanied vocalist Bonnie Bennett. Burial was in the Litchfield Cemetery with Rasmussen Mortuary of Ravenna in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were L. Michael Royle, Gregory Royle, Barren Holm, Nathan Holm, Robert Holmstedt and Delwin Beck.
Leona was born Feb. 21, 1910 to William and Laura (Steele) Schrack in Elm Creek, where she was raised. In 1928, she graduated from Elm Creek High School.
She received an education degree in 1935 from Kearney State College and taught in Pleasanton and Ansley.
On Dec. 24, 1937, she married Floyd Holm of Litchfield. Because of her husband's job the couple lived in many Nebraska towns and wintered in Lincoln and Omaha. In 1943, they moved to the Holm family farm southeast of Mason City in Custer County, where they farmed for 30 years. In the 1960's she resumed teaching for Litchfield Public Schools. The couple retired and moved to Litchfield in 1974.
Mr. Holm died in 1982 and Mrs. Holm moved to a retirement home in Grand Island in 1989. After a sudden illness in 1995, she moved to a Central City Nursing home.
Mrs. Holm was a member of the Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Rebekah Lodge of Litchfield. While living on the farm she was active in the Community Double B Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Holmstedt, Central City; sons, Floyd Jr., Magnolia, Tex., and Stanley, Los Angeles; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
