George Mapes, son of Tyler and Polly Mapes was born in Henry County, Anawan, Ill., December 17, 1871 and departed this life October 10, 1945, at the Patterson Memorial hospital in Belleville, Kansas, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 23 days.

Mr. Mapes came to Kansas at the age of thirteen. He lived with his mother west of Haddam. The living relatives are two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Morton and Mrs. Nora Walker of Haddam; two brothers, James Mapes of Haddam and William Mapes of Wichita. Mr. Mapes was a member of the Christian church and the local Masonic Order. He was a lover of nature and outdoor life.

Funeral service was at the Methodist church Sunday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Chas. E. Reed in charge. Service at the Mill Creek cemetery was conducted by the Masonic Order.
