MARGARET OWENS ANDRES died peacefully on May 31, 2013. Born January 8, 1929, to RONALD OWENS married to WINIFRED CHENEY, in Angola, IN, Margaret attended schools in Angola and then Downer Academy in Milwaukee. Her family had a house in Angola and a cottage on Lake James, where she spent her summers. Margaret graduated from the University of Michigan in 1951 with a degree in Literature, Sciences, and the Arts. She married RICHARD ANDRES, whom she met at Lake James, on December 30, 1950, just prior to graduation. They started their life together in Cincinnati, OH, where Richard worked, and their son Robert was born in 1952. They moved to Pittsburgh in 1954, where their daughter SUSAN was born. Margaret worked as a school teacher and raised the children while Richard traveled for business. She taught both in Mt. Lebanon and Chartiers Valley as a substitute, and then at Chartiers Valley full-time. She then began a career in real estate, working hard for her clients and still raising her kids, whose friends were always welcome and fed. She retired from real estate in the late 1980s, but continued to help Richard with his marketing business. While summering at Lake James, she loved her home in Mt. Lebanon and never wanted to move anywhere else. Margaret had enough energy not only to have both a career and raise her children, but to participate in book clubs, flower shows (she raised prize-winning chrysanthemums and won prizes for flower arranging), and bowling leagues (with Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church, where she was an active member), She had an overpowering love of classical music (both kids had to study piano as a result) and the Pittsburgh Pirates, whose games she listened to no matter where she was. She is survived by the love of her life, Richard, after 63 years of marriage, her son Robert Andres and his wife Rachel of Pelham, MA, her daughter Susan Devlin and her husband Curt of Mt. Lebanon, PA, and her grandkids (to whom she was known as Nonny) Ian and Kristin Andres, and Brian and Danny Devlin. She had several nieces and nephews who were part of her Lake James summers as well. She is also survived by her younger sister, Elizabeth Wittwer and her husband Jerry of Kalamazoo, MI. She was pre-deceased by her older sister, Eleanor (Owens) Sutton, whose husband Dean Sutton was a lifelong friend. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Indiana. Margaret will be buried with her ancestors (both Owens and Andres) in a family plot. Memorials may be made to the University of Michigan or the donor's choice.
