Death at all times is a sad parting but when it takes a mother with a small child, it seems doubly so. Thus ended the life of one of Gratiot's most highly respected young mothers, Mrs. Elmer Burgess nee Bernice Johnson, who died at the home of her parents Wednesday evening about 7 o'clock. It came as a great shock to her many friends and neighbors as it was entirely unexpected.
Deceased was born in Gratiot Sept. 25, 1896, and lived there until Jan. 20, 1917, when she was united in marriage to Elmer Burgess of Shullsburg.
The remains were taken to Shullsburg about one o'clock Friday and the funeral was held from the Congregational church of that place.
Deceased leaves to mourn her; her husband and one son, father, mother and one brother.
