Mary Rose (DePhillips) Thomas passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2009 of congenitive heart failure at Mercy Hospital. A mass will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 21, 2009 at St. Theresa Catholic Church with burial following at Glendale Cemetery.
Mary Rose was born November 20, 1931 in Des Moines IA the daughter of Frank and Jenny (Pagano) DePhillips. She was a graduate of St. Josephs Academy. Mary Rose was a homemaker and a cook for the Johnston School District at Beaver Creek Elementary. Mary was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved her family and friends and cooking for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren around the holidays. She enjoyed her travels to Las Vegas each year.
Mary is survived by her children, Sam Frank Thomas and Rick Thomas of Urbandale, IA, Vicki (Steve) Brom of Des Moines, IA and Mike (Sandi) Thomas of Las Vegas, NV; brothers, Mike DePhillips, Leonard (Annie) DePhillips and Nick (Lela) DePhillips; sister, JoAnn (Sam) Sample; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Philip A. Thomas; her parents, Frank and Jenny DePhillips and brothers Pete, Francis, Milo and Tony.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel with a Rosary at 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa Foundation.
