His body was shipped Dec. 12, 1863, to Danville for burial in the mass graves with 1,400 Prisoners of War then located two of blocks from downtown near the Danville Prison (six large converted tobacco warehouses). The Danville National Cemetery was created in 1866 and much of the mass grave was reinterred there.
