She was born on Jan. 1, 1917 in Irene, S.D., the daughter of Edward C. and Dina T. (Docken) Olson. On Nov. 25, 1938, Mabel was united in marriage to Alfred E. Jensen in Beresford, S.D., where they farmed until 1966 when they moved to Madison. Together they shared a love like none other. They enjoyed traveling, even taking many trips to Denmark. Mabel will be remembered as a devoted mother who enjoyed baking, quilting and crocheting. However her greatest joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was Mabel's strong faith that helped her to convey such warmth, care and love for her family over the years. Together with Al, they were long time members of the Evangelical Free Church of America.
Mabel is survived by her three daughters, JoAnn (Peter) Thorpe, Jeanette (Mark) Foss and Joyce (George) Lynn; grandchildren, Kevin (Loretta) Foss, Dawn (James) Sprecher, Brent Foss, Sara (Pat) McCormick, Tim Foss, Anita Thorpe and Kirstin (Doug) Salter; 11 great-grandchildren; and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Al in 1999; and two brothers.
Funeral services will take place at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, with the Rev. Cal Steiner and Rev. Paul Bawden presiding.
A private family burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mabel's memory to Door Creek Church or Grace Evangelical Church.
