Earl was the son of Samuel Joshua and Nora Martha (PAYNE)(MANER) McCLEERY who were married Nov. 16, 1896 in Indian Territory and are buried a few miles away at the Dick Duck Cemetery in Catoosa, Rogers County, OK.

Earl's paternal grandparents were James & Josephine Belle (VANOVER) McCLEERY--both buried nearby. His maternal grandparents were James & Elizabeth (BRYANT) PAYNE.

His grave marker indicates an incorrect spelling of his surname: McCLARY.
