Richard P. Sherry, Sr., age 84 of Sanford died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant.
The son of the late Robert and Zada (Mitchell) Sherry was born May 24, 1928 in Lafayette, Indiana. Richard was raised and educated in Weslaco, Texas. He served with the U.S. Army during W. W. II.
In 1973 he married the former Marjorie Herrington and she predeceased him June 6, 2007. Richard resided in Mt. Pleasant for many years prior to moving to Texas where he worked as a carpenter for the University of Texas, Galveston, retiring in 1992. He has resided in Sanford since 2000 and was a member of Sanford United Methodist Church and the Sanford American Legion.

He is survived by a son and two daughters, two step-sons and a step/daughter, three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and sister, Kathleen Ryan of San Antonio, Texas. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his first wife, the former Kathleen Matthews, mother of his children, and his brother, Kenneth Sherry.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has been arranged through the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. With Military Honors, Richard's cremains will be buried in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.

Richard first married Kathleen Mae 'Kitty' Matthews, daughter of Ernest Francis Matthews Jr. (1904–1997) and Cecelia Matilda Kruske Matthews (1907–1983).
