Lawrence Otis Carpenter was 89 at his death. He died at home in Morganton, NC after a lengthy illness. Mr. Carpenter was the son of the late Columbus Carpenter Sr., and the late Odia Thomas Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pansy Lee Moore Carpenter; brothers, Alvin Carpenter Sr. and Columbus "June" Carpenter Jr. He was a member of Gaston Chapel AME Church and served as a Trustee, Steward, Secretary and Treasurer. He was also a member of the Men's Choir and served as Sunday School Superintendent. Mr. Carpenter graduated from North Carolina A & T State University and retired from Burke County Public Schools where he taught and was an assistant principal at East Burke County High School. He was a former member of Queen of the West Lodge #70 and Gizeh Temple #162. He was a former member of the North Carolina Coaches Association for 20 years. He was a kind and gentle man who was well respected. He was much loved by all who knew him and his former students adored him.
