John B. Mathena Jr.

Topeka – John B. Mathena Jr., 77, Topeka, died Friday, July 26, 1996, at his
home.

Mr. Mathena was born April 22, 1919, at Tacoma, Washington, and was a resident
of Topeka since 1990, moving from Salina. He was an Army Air Corps veteran. He
was a field representative for the Kansas Veterans Commission from 1946 until
retiring in 1983. He worked at offices in Marysville, Arkansas City and
Hutchinson before moving to the Salina office in 1952. He was a member if the
University United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 62, both of Salina,
Disables American Veterans and Voyageur Militaire of La Societe des 40 Hommes et
8 Chevaux of Voiture.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred “Midge” of the home; a son, John Gregory of
Topeka; and a granddaughter.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military
rites by Philip Billard Post 1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American
Legion.

Memorials may be made to Salina American Legion Post 62 or Midland Hospice Care
Inc., Topeka.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home,
800 S.W. Sixth, Topeka 66603, where family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m.
today.
