Frank Rogers Day, a native of Aberdeen, was an alumnus of the University of Mississippi and the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. In addition to serving as chairman of the board and CEO of Trustmark National Bank, Day committed himself to helping young Mississippians achieve their educational goals. In 1978 he established the Lucky Day Foundation to do just that. Although Frank Day died in 1999, his vision lives on through his foundation, which continues to support deserving Mississippi students. "The Essence of Survival" was Mr. Day's favorite metaphor for life.
The Essence of Survival
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.
It doesn't matter whether Luckyday Scholars are a lion or a gazelle.
When the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
