After 80 years of life, Mayo Aanderud passed away on September 1, 2009, peacefully, with his family by his side. Mayo was born July 8, 1929 in Hamberg, North Dakota and moved to Everett in 1942.

As a young man, he worked as a merchant seaman in the U.S. Coast Guard and with the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey (Fish & Wildlife Division). He was most proud of enlisting in the U.S. Army and served as a medic in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. After the war, he had many jobs as a high scaler at High Gorge Dam, Skagit County, and in construction working out of local Northwest Laborers Union.

Mayo was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Richard and Myrtle Aanderud; and beloved niece, Joni Heckendorf.

He leaves behind his four sisters, Lois (Bill) White, Mary (Jim) Kinder, twin sisters, Deloise Shutes and Darlene Aanderud; nieces, Valerie (Rick) Grube and Trudy White; nephews, Gary Christenson and daughter, Megan, Larry Christenson and daughters, Libby and Claire; other family members, Dale (Kathy) Heckendorf, Daniel, Dacia, Kaila, and Nathan; his beloved companion/caregiver of 22 years, Betty Pribble and her entire loving family; son, Scott (Deborah), of Hawaii; granddaughter, Ashley; also many cousins and special friends.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thank you for the compassionate care given Mayo by the Marysville Care Center, Providence Regional Medical Center (Colby Campus, Everett) and Hospice.
