Ebenezer Bogues Kennedy was the 3rd of four sons born to William Patton Kennedy and the former Miss Margaret Elizabeth McLane. E.B. as he was known, also had three sisters. His parents were descendants of two Scotch-Irish Reform Presbyterians; who belonged to Long Cane & Cedar Springs A.R.P. churches near were he was born on the 2nd of November 1871. At a young age, E.B.'s family moved to Due West for the purpose of educating their children.

E.B. Kennedy entered Erskine College at the age of 14 and graduated in 1889 at the age of 18. Just two years later, he was teaching Greek and German at Erskine, being the youngest professor in the schools history. In 1895, E.B. entered Yale in New Haven and received a Master of Arts degree in one year.

E.B. returned to Due West and enrolled in Erskine Theologian Seminary; graduating in 1898. Before his being licensed by the Presbytery, E.B. was called to preach at Bartow A.R.P. in Florida. On the 20th of August 1898, he was ordained at a service conducted by the Revs. C. S. Young and S. W. Reid at Bartow A.R.P. church. Rev. E.B. Kennedy remained at Bartow until 1905; when became pastor at Abbeville for eight years. Then he returned to Erskine College (1913) to be a professor in languages, especially in Latin and French; retiring in 1948.

Rev. Ebenezer Bogues Kennedy departed this life on the 25th day November 1962 at the age of 91 years and 23 days old. He was laid to rest near his parents in the churchyard cemetery at Due West A.R.P where he been a member since 1887.
