Thus was the motto and life of Rex Bilby Adams, bringing a smile and a bit of laughter to everyone he came in contact with. He was born October 1, 1923 to Robert Darius Adams and Jesse Ellen Billingsly in Cedar City, Utah. His Mother passed away when he was 15 years of age ,spending many lonely hours alone, until his father married Mary Robinson. Grandmother Mary became a great joy in his life.
Rex attended schools in Hurricane,Utah. Immediately after graduating from Hurricane High he joined the Army, becoming the supervisor of the Radiology department in a Army hospital in Oakland, California. At the end of World War II he left a career in Radiology and the Army to attend Photography School in Berkley, California. A career wherein he became a "LEGACY ", known as the "Chicken-man" and loved by thousands capturing their best smiles in portrait.
Rex married his HIGH School sweetheart, Wilma Whitney of Hurricane on the15th of June, 1943, becoming the parents of four boys and two girls. Scott, Mary, Kristina, Carl, Cory and Kelly. Settling in Richfield, Utah, they created ADAMS PHOTOGRAPHIC studio. Rex, the photographer and Wilma a professional color artist. Wilma passed away May 9, 1968, leaving a grieving husband and six lonely children.
On March 21st 1970, Rex married Maxine T Curtis Church in Manti, Utah. Together they had 2 boys (deceased) and one daughter, Kandis Lei. Moving to Orem in 1977 they created another Photographic studio and became known as the man with the chicken, bringing laughter to the thousands of school students. Along the way they gathered anyone who needed a home and a bit of love. Eventually 19 called him Dad.
Rex loved life, had a deep testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, holding many positions, especially his Primary classes. Camping with friends and family, eating at Chuck A Rama and KFC, living in the foothill area of Fairview, Utah (18 yrs) and ultimately a temple worker in the Manti Temple. He gave and received love unconditionally to all. He leaves a wife, Maxine, a legacy of children, their spouses, grandchildren (78) and great-grandchildren (142) of whom he was "their grandpa." Surviving children are Scott, Mary, Kristina, Carl, Cory, Kelly, and Kandi Adams; Terry, Becky, Derrel, Debra, and Kevin Curtis; Doug, Dennis Karla and Louise Church; and Leonard Anthony and Virginia Kjar.
Dad, Grandpa Rex passed away May 19, 2013 having expressed his love to all Saying "live your life so that we may be together again." He loved as the Savior loved, regardless of creed or color.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Spanish Fork East Stake Center, 870 East Canyon Rd., Spanish Fork, Utah. Friends and family may visit with family prior to the services from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. A visitation will also be held Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork.
Interment will follow in the Richfield City Cemetery at 3:30 p.m..
