Helen Barbara Sobczyk Letcher was born in Old Mystic, Connecticut on July 9, 1924. Her parents were Polish immigrants Anastasia Pulaski and Josef Sobczyk. She had three brothers, William "Bo" Sobczyk, Stephen "Stash" Sobczyk, and Walter Sobczyk. Helen married John Benson Letcher on August 6, 1942. The union produced two sons: John Benson Letcher, Jr., and Howard Brion Letcher.
She spent her life devoted to the care of her husband and sons and a long list of pets. All those who were touched by her life knew of her deep love and concern for her Country, and her generous spirit. Helen was preceded in death by her husband John, her eldest son, "Johnnie B," and her beloved dog Molly.
Surviving are her son Howard Letcher of Comfort, Texas, daughter-in-law Deborah Letcher of Parker, Colorado; grandchildren Sean Letcher and wife Kelsey of Austin, Texas; Scott Letcher of Parker, Colorado; Katherine Letcher of Parker, Colorado; and one great granddaughter, Elliot Letcher of Austin, Texas.
