George Douglas Adams, 88, 104 N. Walker Lane, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital, Greenville. Retired: Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Member: Fairview Baptist Church and a Gideon.

Survivors: wife, Vivian Deaver Adams, Oak Ridge; son, Dennis K. Adams of Pierson, Fl; daughters, Vicki Morton of Greenville and Jackie Robert of Cartersville, Ga; two sisters, Martha Adams and Frances Evans, both of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

George Douglas Adams, 88, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville, S.C.

Mr. Adams was born April 7, 1912 in Purvis, N.C., the son of John Henry and Lena Pate Adams. He came to Oak Ridge in 1952 from McColl, S.C.

He was a retired welder from Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Mr. Adams was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a member of Gideon International. He enjoyed ceramics and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian Deaver Adams; his son, Dennis K. Adams and his wife, Pam, of Pierson, Fla.; his daughters, Vicki Morton and her husband, C.H., of Greenville, S.C., and Jackie Roberts and her husband, Norris, of Cartersville, Ga.; his sisters, Martha Adams and Frances Evans, both of Charlotte, N.C.; and by 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams was preceded in death by a son, Spencer Adams, in 1969.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Jeff Dew officiating.

Burial will follow at McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Gideon International of Oak Ridge, P.O. Box 213, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-0213.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
