Dec. 25, 1787 he married Catherine Weaver at the Old Luthern Church in Culpeper Co. Virginia. Catherine was the daughter of Mathias Weaver and Elizabeth Finks.
He migrated from Virginia with his family in 1832 and settled near Bradfordsville, Ky.
He and Catherine had 6 sons: Presley, William M, fielding W, Elias Jr., Armistead and Phillip and 3 daughters Ruth, Sarah (Van Dyke) and Martha "Patsy" Gaar".
