Leroy A. Carter, 52, of RD 6, Creamer Drive, formerly of the Laurel Hotel, died suddenly Wednesday evening as a result of injuries he received when he was struck by a car.

Born in Greenwich, he was the son of Lethia Coker Carter and the late Hopewell Carter. He was raised in Elmer and later resided on Rockville Road in Fairton for many years. For the past five years, he had been a resident of the Laurel Hotel and had resided with his mother and sister, S. Evelyn Schroeder, at the Creamer Drive address since a fire struck the hotel a month ago.

During his younger years, Mr. Carter attended the Faith Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Pole Tavern. He had farmed for most of his working life and was last employed as an equipment operator with Seabrook Farms. At one time he had been employed by the Vineland Supersonic Car Wash for five years.

In addition to his mother and sister, he is survived by three brothers, Perry W. of San Mateo, Calif., John C. of Raton, N.M., and Donald Carter of Bridgeton.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. Francis E. Champion, pastor of the Fortescue Community Chapel, assisted by the Rev. Dale R. Johnston, pastor of the St. John's First Evangelical Lutheran Church, on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Carll & Peterson Funeral Home, 208 E. Commerce St.

Interment will be made in Fernwood Memorial Park.

Friends may call Saturday afternoon two hours prior to the services at the funeral home.
