June Lillian (Blaylock) Beorkrem, daughter of Lewis Morgan and Harriet "Hattie" (Sigafoose) Blaylock, was born on June 14, 1914, in What Cheer. She died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at the age of 93, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in St. James, Minn. June was raised by an aunt and uncle, Cora and John Wenger from the age of 2 years. She graduated from Kinross High School in Kinross in 1932. Her marriage to Harold Beorkrem took place in 1934 in Cedar Rapids. While living in Cedar Rapids, June was active in Camp Fire and at the First Lutheran Church. In 1947, they moved to Newton, where they operated Fortune Cleaners and Cozad Cleaners. She was active in the First Lutheran Church, the Ladies Kiwanis, the Soroptimist Club and the Newton Boating Club. Harold died in June of 1992. June had been living in St. James since 2001 and had been a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home since Sept. 28, 2005. June is survived by her daughter, Linda Lou Beam of St. James; granddaughters, Kimberly Beam and Kristen Beam, both of Eagan, Minn.; six nephews; and six nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, John and Jasper Brower; a sister, Violet Wherry; and a son-in-law, William "Bill" Beam. Memorial services were held Feb. 2, 2008, at the First Lutheran Church in St. James, Minn. Burial will take place in the English River Brethren Church Cemetery in South English at a later date.
