Wallistein Hopkins, 75, of Middletown, husband of Debra (Brackett) Hopkins, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Middlesex Hospital.
Born in Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late Stewart and Arddie (Black) Hopkins.
Wallistein was a member of Shiloh Christian Church and had also been a trustee at Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church. He served in the U.S. Navy serving on the Intrepid, had been employed at SNET for 27 years, was a master barber who owned the Top Hat Barber Shop 1 and 2, was very influential in helping other people establish their business, was a member of the Harry Ruffin, American Legion Post 206, Middletown, a founder of the Middletown Brotherhood Club, an avid fan of boxing and a lover of cars, watching cowboy and Indian movies. He also had a knack for making anyone laugh.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Marquis Hopkins and his wife, Tracy, of Tampa, Fla., Wallistein F. Hopkins and K. Brandon Hopkins and his wife, Adriana, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one daughter, Pasha Lowery-Stocking, of Middletown; three brothers, Aqil Hashim"Stuart Hopkins," of Hamden, Eddie Hopkins, of Los Angeles, Tommy Hopkins, of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Geraldine Belin, of Middletown, R. Maurice Johnson, of Richmond, Va. and Talaya McAllister, of Jersey City, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, especially his nephew, Andre Brackett, who was like a son.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Wallis Hopkins; a brother, Joe McAllister; and two sisters, Andrea Hardy and Laramae Bailey.
Funeral services will be held at the Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church, 440 West St., Middletown on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Hylton officiating and interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, South Main Street, Middletown, where full military honors will be accorded.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. and in lieu of flowers, may make donations to Shiloh Christian Church, P.O. Box 422, Middletown, CT
