Henry Paul Boyles was born on Apr. 4, 1891 in Eldorado, Montgomery Co., North Carolina. He was the oldest of four sons born to Augustus Clingman "A.C." Boyles (1867-1936) and Anna Elizabeth "Annie/Eliza" Coggin (1862-1914).

Paul's father, a medical doctor, was born in Laurel Hill, Lincoln Co., NC. A 1897 graduate of Baltimore University's School of Medicine, he was the son of Methodist Episcopal (M.E.) preacher Marcus Wrightman "M.W." Boyles (1842-1892), and Susan A. (Alice ?) Wood (1846-1895). Both are buried in the Lexington City Cemetery located in Lexington, Davidson Co., NC. AC's father, Rev. Josiah Adolphus Boyles (1816-1894), and paternal grandfather (John Boyles II (1770-1843), were also "old time" circuit Methodist Episcopal (M.E.) preachers.

Paul's mother, Annie, was born in Montgomery Co., NC. She was the daughter of Burwell "Burrel" Titus Coggin Jr (1814-1885) and Cirona Harris (1836-1873), both of who were also born in Montgomery Co., NC, lived and died there.

Annie's paternal grandparents were Burwell Titus Coggin Sr. (1766-1814) and Letha "Lethy" Tucker. Burwell Sr. was born in Montgomery while Letha was born in Virginia. Annie's maternal grandparents were Parsons Benjamin Harris Sr (1808-1868) and Abigail Ingram (1819-1875). Both are thought also to have been born in Montgomery Co., NC, to have lived and died there.

Paul, who never married, died on June 7, 1910 , at/near the end of this freshman year at Trinity College (called Duke University as of 1924). His cause of his death at such a youthful age was typhoid fever. Paul was a bright young man who was tragically lost at the age of 19, most likely studying to be a doctor like his father.

Following Paul's death, his mother, Annie, started to suffer from depression. Despite the best efforts of her husband and her three remaining children, Annie's condition continued to worsen. Her severe depression finally reached a point where she had to be placed in the Dorothy Dix Mental Hospital for 24/7 care and supervision. Annie died there in 1914, literally starving herself to death.

Paul is buried in the Maplewood Cemetery located in Durham NC. Later, his parents (1914 & 1936) were buried nearby.
