Calderwood served part of a 5 year enlistment in Army as Pvt in Artillery 21 July 1812 to 5 Jan 1815 when he received an early General Discharge from Fort Moultrie, SC, possibly Medical reasons, sore legs and eyes noted. This may be where the Mason Ferry idea came from. The island had two.
In the 1820 Georgia census I found an older Calderwood Mason. This may be John Mason's brother?
From what I can tell, John Mason was born in Georgia about 1765. After the Revolutionary War, moved to Mobile, West Florida, where Calderwood was born. Possibly because Indians were killing British in the county, he moved to S.C. where he looked up his friend Noel Turner from the war.
Returned to Mobile by 1820 or so. One Census shows him living next to Calderwood. Polly and Jensey Mason born 1800 and 1815 in SC were living in and maybe Calderwood's older son.
Richard Mason in Greene County, Ms was born in SC 1797. May be his son.
