Danny Howard "Dan" McNeal, 59, of Pendergrass and the Belmont Community, died September 3, 2011, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry McNeal, and father, Howard McNeal.
A native of Jackson County, Dan was born October 12, 1951, in Commerce, GA, and was the son of the late Howard McNeal and Evelyn Smith McNeal currently of the Fairview Community. He received his Associates degree from Gainesville College, BS degree from Brenau University, and his Masters in Banking from the University of Virginia and Oklahoma. He was a lifetime member of the Board of Trustees of Gainesville College. His early career was in the banking industry. He then moved on to real estate development and later to other endeavors.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Boss McNeal, Fairview; son and daughter-in-law, Captain Matthew McNeal and Kathryn McNeal of Clarkesville, TN; son, Christopher McNeal, Gainesville; two granddaughters, Kristin and Lilly Evelyn McNeal, Clarkesville, TN; mother, Evelyn Smith McNeal, Fairview; step-daughter and husband, Amy and Will Goss, Chestnut Mountain; two step-grandchildren, Emma and Ben Goss; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jerri and Alan Dunaway, Suwanee, and Debra and Phil Henderson, Snellville; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday September 9, 2011 at the Belmont Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Compton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends at the Little & Davenport Funeral Home Thursday September 8, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
