Jessie H. Clayton, 85, of Morton, Texas, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Cochran Memorial Hospital in Morton.
He was born March 17, 1920, in Plainview, Texas.
His grandparents raised him in Lingo. He graduated from Lingo High School in 1940. He married Waydia Green in 1941, and she died in 1942. He served in the Army in 1945 and 1946 in the Philippines. He married Pattie Stinson in February 1947, and moved to Morton two years later, where he farmed until his retirement in 1985. He was an active member of the community and served on many boards, such as FHA, ASCS, Morton School Board and Bailey County Electric Co-op. Family members said he loved fishing and camping, was an active father and coached minor and little league teams.
He was preceded in death by a son.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Norma Walker of Midland, Texas, and Sharon Kemp of San Antonio; two sons, Dennis Clayton of Weatherford, Texas, and Randy Clayton of Hollis, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Joey Pierce will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Morton Memorial Cemetery.
