Miss Shumate Dies Yesterday Evening.

During a visit to her cousin, Miss Elisan Brown, at her home in the county, several miles northwest of Winchester, Miss Elizabeth Shumate, one of the best known ladies of Winchester, died unexpectedly yesterday evening at seven o'clock. Miss Shumate was 62 years old.

The remains were brought to her home in Winchester today and the funeral will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at 3o'clock from Miss Shumate's late residence 141 North Washington street. Interment will be made in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Miss Shumate is survived by two sisters, Misses Martha and Rebecca Shumate, both of Winchester. Her brother, the late Tillman R. Shumate, was cashier of the Shenandoah Valley National Bank of this city for ten years. She was a member of an old Virginia family and was well known and held in the highest esteem.

Miss Shumate is Laid to Rest
The funeral of the late Miss Elizabeth Shumate, whose death on Sunday last at the home of Miss Elisan Brown was told in The Star, was held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from her late residence on north Washington street. Interment was made in Mount Hebron, and the pallbearers were Messrs. Ira C. Capper, John Brown, Richard Brown, Howell Bond, W.M. Hodges, J.Few Brown and Rufus Robinson.
