Sarah Jane Cox was born February 19, 1859 in Greenup, Illinois to Jacob Cox and Mary Eaton Cox. She came to Kansas at age 17 with her father and sisters and brothers after her mother died. She married George Washington Light in 1877 at Howard, Kansas. He died on or around 1892 in Parsons, Kansas. She died on July 20, 1936 and is buried in Jackson Cemetery north of New Albany, Kansas.
