Thelma was born to William J. Hammond (1867-1925) and Jerusha Ann Garrard Hammond (1875-1943). She was the oldest of seven children. As a girl she learned to play the piano. She wanted a piano of her own and won a $100 certificate toward one in a contest sponsored by an eastern music company. But her father declined to pay the freight cost to ship the piano to Utah. Instead, he went to Salt Lake City and purchased a piano for the family.

She attended grade school in Lake Point graduating with honors. She was bright in school and was the champion speller in contest with other schools. She boarded at a home in Garfield to attend Jr. High and later boarded at a home in Grantsville in order to attend High School.

She was good with her hands and had a talent with sewing and crochet work.

Thelma married Brigham Dewey Davies on April 4, 1924. Two weeks after giving birth to her sixth child, she died on July 17, 1935. Children from this marriage are: Burton, Howard, Farrel, Gilbert, Keith and Thelma.

After Themla's death, Brigham married Doris Evelyn Olson Davies on Oct. 13, 1936. Three additional children were added to the family from this marriage: Darlene, Janet and Jerry.

Thelma is on the same stone with Brigham and Doris.
