Actress. She began her career in the theatre debuting on Broadway in "The Taming of the Shrew" (1951). She appeared in various theatre productions throughout the early 1950s, before being offered roles on film and television. For television, she was most noted for the role of 'Mrs. Pynchon' on the series "Lou Grant" and won four consecutive Emmy Best Supporting Actress Awards. Later, she won a Golden Globe Best Supporting Actress Award for her portrayal of 'Livia Soprano' on the HBO series "The Sopranos." She also appeared on "Love of Life," "Another World," "Law and Order," "Life on the Street," "Night Court," and "Cheers." Her feature film credits included "The Bachelor Party" (1957), "Me, Natalie" (1969), "Hospital" (1971), "From the Hip" (1987), "Sabrina" (1995), and "Dear God" (1996).
