A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of twenty-three at Camp William Penn, Philadelphia, October 5, 1863, and mustered into federal service there October 7 as a private with Co. E, 8th U.S. Colored Troops. He was given a twenty-day furlough February 15, 1865, promoted to corporal March 1, 1865, and to sergeant June 30, 1865. He honorably discharged with his company November 10, 1865, at Brownsville, Texas.
He married Charlotte E. LNU, and by 1870 was living in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County, but died at his home in Carlisle. He had been a member of Thompson Post No. 440, G.A.R.
