Grandma Beebe. Born Ida Virginia Whealton, the only daughter of Rebecca Elizabeth and Daniel Whealton of Chincoteague, Virginia. She married Clarence Beebe in 1906, and they had ten children, including Harold Lee, who was the father of Paul and Maureen. Her claim to fame came when author, Marguerite Henry, translated the story of her grandchildren, Paul and Maureen's, purchase of a wild mare and her foal during pony penning into a bestselling book. 'Misty of Chincoteague' became, and still stands, as a classic of childrens' literature. Mrs. Beebe died at 72 shortly after the release of a movie based on the book, 'Misty of Chincoteague.'
