J.R. Blackburn, age 87, of Valley Spings, Arkansas, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, in Harrison Arkansas. He was born January 10, 1926, in Goldthwaite, Texas, the son of John Henry and Vivian (Davis) Blackburn, who preceded him in death, along with his son, Tony Blackburn, two brothers; and two sisters.

J.R. was a Baptist and a member of Union Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He married Audie Cannon on March 18, 1950, in Big Springs, Texas. He was an oilfield worker & farmer.

J.R. is survived by his wife, Audie Blackburn; and his three sons, Ronnie Blackburn, Terry Blackburn, and Tim Blackburn. He is also survived by two nieces; a nephew; eight grandchildren, April Parker, Dustin Blackburn, Paige Carter, Luke Blackburn, Emily Middleton, Kaitlin Blackburn, Keenan Blackburn, and Tyler Blackburn. Also are twelve great-grandchildren, Avery Parker, Beck Jones, Stella Parker, Keeton Carter, Lyla Carter, Emma Blackburn, Levi Blackburn, Lilee Middleton, Turner Middleton, Louise Middleton, Ford Middleton and Lark Middleton.

Funeral service is 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Terry Blackburn officiating.

Pallbearers are Keenan Blackburn, Dustin Blackburn, Tyler Blackburn, Luke Blackburn, Larry Phillips and Howard Hammer.

Interment is in Western Grove Cemetery.
