Mr. Gary Brandenburg

Mr. Gary Wayne Brandenburg, 54, of East Main Street, Middletown, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, of a heart attack.

He was the husband of Donna Jean Plunkard Brandenburg, his wife of 35 years.

Born Oct. 16, 1948, in Middletown, he was the son of Rudolph S. and Evelyn Ropp Brandenburg of Middletown.

Mr. Brandenburg was a 1967 graduate of Middletown High School, and a 1969 graduate of Frederick Community College.

He was a lifelong member of Evangelical Lutheran Church Zion of Middletown, where he served on numerous committees and the church council. He was Zion Sunday church school treasurer and chairman of the Cemetery Board.

Mr. Brandenburg had served in the Maryland Army National Guard during the 1970s and saw active duty stateside during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of Monocacy Rose Society, Frederick, holding several offices. He was serving as secretary at the time of his death. He was a consulting rosarian for the American Rose Society for a number of years. He was proud of the awards he won showing his roses in competitions.

Mr. Brandenburg was employed by Harry Ramsburg Construction Co. He was in the painting business with his father as Rudolph S. Brandenburg and Son for 20 years. He had been employed by Frederick County public schools for the past 10 years. He was employed at Middletown Elementary School and, at the time of his death, was lead custodian at Deer Crossing Elementary School. He loved his job and the children there.

He was an avid antiquer and loved flea market sales. He also enjoyed woodworking.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are one daughter, Kristi L. Frizzell and husband Stephen B. of Middletown; his granddaughter, Samantha M. Frizzell of Middletown; one sister, Terri Jane Talbott and husband Dennis Kirk Talbott of Frederick; his father- and mother-in law, Donald L. and Dorothy J. Plunkard of Jefferson; a sister-in-law, Deborah Talbott of Frederick; one niece, Devon Talbott Marcelino and husband Kirk of Frederick; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Zion Lutheran Church, 107 W. Main St., Middletown, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. The Rev. Donald L. Turley, his pastor, and the Rev. William M. Bucher, associate pastor, will officiate. There will be a viewing at the church Saturday, one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
