Emily married Benjamin about 1841. Among their children were Virginia, George, William, Anne Elizabeth (Annie), Emily Jane, Benjamin F., Lafayette, John, and Hattie Lee. Annie was one of almost 50 persons, mostly young girls, fatally injured in the Confederate States Lab explosion of 13 March 1863 in Richmond.

Emily is buried near her daughter Hattie in the Boswell B. Butt plot, a short distance from the graves of her husband and several distance here.
